Summer Program Assistant, Early Childhood Education

The Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program Assistant will present and facilitate a variety of hands-on activities and demonstrations for small and large groups of visitors (both within the Discovery Center and in other MOS venues), and will assist the Coordinator in the training of early childhood interpreters (including Living Laboratory research assistants). The Program Assistant will closely with small teams of his/her peers and the Program Manager to create new STEM educational experiences for the Museum's early childhood audiences (young children and their caregivers). The Program Assistant will be responsible for assisting Program Presenters in opening and/or closing the Discovery Center, including some light cleaning and maintenance, setting up/breaking down programs in early childhood venues throughout the exhibit halls, and documentation of daily educational activities.

There are 4 Early Childhood Education Program Assistant positions available.


  • Set up and facilitate hands-on activities and present demonstrations in the Discovery Center, and for early childhood audiences across MOS venues (5-7 hours "on-the-floor" daily).
  • Assist in the training of early childhood interpreters (including research assistants working with Living Laboratory), interfacing with up to 20 other interpreters daily.
  • Assist in cleaning, organization and upkeep of early childhood materials and venues (educate in up to 3 venues/day).
  • Assist in the design and piloting of new activities/experiences for early childhood audiences across MOS (1-2 new activities or experiences/semester).
  • Complete logs (daily), and ensure documentation of all educational activities.


This position is temporary, part-time, with multiple schedules available, starting June 1, 2019.


Program Manager, Discovery Center


  • Successfully completed a previous Youth Internship at the Museum of Science
  • Demonstrated comfort communicating STEM concepts to a variety of lay audiences verbally
  • Demonstrated strong interest in early childhood education
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a group setting as part of a multi-faceted team
  • Ability to read, write, understand English; basic math.
  • 6+ months of informal science education (previous experience as an MOS Youth Intern) experience.


Non-Exempt (Hourly). Commensurate with experience.
