Government Relations Internship

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The Government Relations Department is part of the Advancement Division of the Museum. We provide assistance and guidance with all Federal, state, and local government grants for which the Museum applies. We also advocate on behalf of the entire Museum before the Massachusetts Congressional Delegation, the Governor's Administration, the State House legislators, and the cities of Boston and Cambridge.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Government Relations Intern will help to summarize and review potential government grant opportunities and applications. They will also assist with scheduling and preparing materials for meetings with Federal, state, and local government officials and staff and help to provide follow up from these meetings.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research Federal, state, and local government grant opportunities;
  • Draft portions of components for government grant applications;
  • Schedule and prepare materials for meetings with government officials; and
  • Provide follow-up information after these meetings.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicants must be college student, graduate student, recent higher-education grad., including career changers;
  • Demonstrated writing and editing skills; and
  • Attention to detail.

SPECIAL SKILLS:

  • Preference for candidates with at least an interest in government or political science OR previous experience in the public sector preferably with an elected government official.

LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP: Summer 2021 (late May/early June mid/late August)


LOCATION OF INTERNSHIP: Remote


WORK SCHEDULE: 28 hours/week or 4 full days (full-day shifts are 7 working hours will an unpaid lunch hour) within the Monday-Friday 9am-5pm schedule.

  • NOTE: All internships are part-time temporary positions.

PAY RATE: The pay rate for internships is $13.50 per hour for an undergrad or $13.75 for a graduate.
