Graphic Design Internship

Integrated Marketing Communications, a department within the Marketing Division, is responsible for implementing and managing the Museum brand initiatives, designing the majority of products required by Museum staff and partners, editing the Museum website and email communications, and producing a wide range of digital products used for marketing and promotional purposes both in-house and through social media.


An outstanding opportunity for a motivated and focused individual in the Integrated Marketing Communications Department as a Graphic Design Intern to assist with designing and/or updating print and digital marketing and communications collateral, as well as other institutional projects, in accordance with our established brand standards.


  • Graphic and production print design for directional/event signage
  • Graphic and production print design/layout for postcards, brochures, flyers, and a variety of other promotional products
  • Digital design of for web (image resizing) and social media use (design IG, FB posts/online banners, etc.)
  • Assistance with print production (set up files, archive, etc.)
  • Participate in meetings and brainstorming sessions for upcoming projects


  • Currently pursuing a relevant higher education degree, a recent graduate (within a year), or career changer
  • A digital portfolio (online or PDF) required
  • Ability to work on Apple Macintosh OS platform
  • Demonstrated experience in Adobe Creative Cloud applications: Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop
  • Demonstrated experience in layout design and typography and Microsoft Word
  • Verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work both independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to prioritize and manage simultaneous tasks and projects for multiple internal clients
  • Demonstrated organization skills and attention to detail


  • Experience with database software such as Asana
  • Experience with animation software like Adobe AfterEffects, Final Cut Pro
  • Hands-on production skills (i.e. making paper comps)
  • Experience with commercial print vendors
  • Photography skills including shooting, photo selection, and manipulation


Staff, interns, and volunteers will be required to show proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. The Museum will consider an exemption from the vaccine requirement if they are unable to get vaccinated due to a qualifying medical disability or a sincerely held religious objection. The Museum is not required to provide an accommodation or exemption from the vaccine requirement if doing so would pose a direct threat to others in the workplace or would create an undue hardship for the Museum.

LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP: Winter/Spring 2022 (Start: mid-January/early February until End: May)

WORK SCHEDULE: 2 or 3 days/week (14 or 21 paid hours per week with a daily unpaid lunch hour). Monday-Friday 9am - 5pm.

POSITION LOCATION: Hybrid (based in Boston, MA)

  • If working 2 days (14 paid hours) 1 day remote and 1 day onsite OR if working 3 days (21 paid hours) 1 day remote and 2 days onsite
  • Remote or hybrid interns will receive a Museum laptop and needed software for the duration of their internship.

PAY RATE: The pay rate for internships is $14.25 per hour for an undergrad or $14.50 for a graduate or currently enrolled graduate student.
