Elementary Engineering Curriculum Development Internship

Museum of Science, Boston

The Engineering is Elementary (EiE) project fosters engineering and technological literacy among children. It currently consists of three curricula: (1) EiE, an in-school curriculum for 1st to 5th graders that integrates engineering and technology concepts and skills with elementary science topics, (2) Engineering Adventures, for 3rd to 5th graders in out-of-school time settings, (3) Engineering Everywhere, for 6th to 8th graders in out-of-school time settings. In all three curricula, students work in teams to solve a hands-on engineering design challenge; use their inquiry and problem-solving skills; and tap their creativity as they design, create, and improve possible solutions. In the end, students realize that everyone can engineer! EiE is expanding upon its three existing curricula to develop two curricula for early learners. The goal of this project is to develop a research-based, contextualized engineering program for children in preschool and kindergarten. Designed specifically for the preschool and kindergarten environments with ongoing feedback from educators, these units will benefit any early childhood educator looking to bring engineering into the classroom.

The Curriculum Development intern will work closely with the Curriculum team to assist in the development of research-based resources for the EiE project that support diverse learners. The intern will get hands-on experience with curriculum development for diverse educational settings.
