The Interpretation Program offers hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences for Museum visitors throughout the Exhibit Halls. Our goal is to guide visitors in investigations that encourage them to develop the skills of scientific inquiry and engineering design. The Hands-On Laboratory program invites visitors to explore a wide range of topics in laboratory science and engineering using laboratory tools and techniques.


The Intern will assist the Interpretation staff with the support and delivery of drop in laboratory investigations in the Suit-Cabot Lab. Primary responsibilities will include guiding visitors in laboratory investigations, support volunteers in their work with visitors, and assist with lab setup, clean up, and maintenance of supplies. The Suit-Cabot Lab intern will also have an opportunity to develop a new investigation or enhance components of an exiting investigation.

  • Guide visitors in laboratory investigations for 2 hours each day
  • Support volunteers in their work with visitors bu providing access to supplies and fielding questions.
  • Follow proper lab safety protocols to maintain a safe and clean lab environment.
  • Set-up and clean lab investigations.
  • Maintain lab supplies

Basic Qualifications:

  • Interest in informal science education
  • Undergraduate background in biology or chemistry(primarily related to life science)
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to work with a variety of age groups, including school groups and families
  • Willingness to use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when necessary

Winter/Spring 2019 (January - May)


Required from 9:30 am to 1 pm Tuesday-Fridays  (Wednesday availability strongly preferred)



Between $12.00 & $12.25 hourly
